Arts Advisory Committee
The Arts Advisory Committee advises the Town Council concerning planning and display of art works in the Town Hall Complex. The Committee helps to create and sustain a cultural and artistic environment which encourages local artists, collectors, and gallery owners to participate in educational and exhibition projects within the Town. The Committee has seven members and meets three times per year.
Board of Adjustment
The Board hears appeals of zoning code interpretations by Town officials. The Board may grant variances from, and exceptions to, the strict application of the Code. It is made up of seven members who serve three year terms. On average, the Board meets five times per year.
General Plan Advisory Committee
A general plan is a land use policy document that provides a foundation for local government decision-making relative to development, transportation, environmental, economic, and social goals. The Town will update and re-adopt its general plan in March 2012. In preparation a General Plan Advisory Committee has been created with nine members, of which three will be residents.
Hillside Building Committee
The Hillside Building Committee was created in 1996 and is governed by Article XXII of the Zoning Ordinance. Its purpose is to review applications for building permits in the Hillside Development Area. Membership on the Committee consists of two rotating Councilmembers, two rotating Planning Commissioners, and one citizen appointed by the Mayor for a three year term. The Hillside Committee meets about eight times per year.
Historical Advisory Committee
The Historical Advisory Committee was established in 1997 to advise the Town Council on matters pertaining to establishing and maintaining an archival record of the Town of Paradise Valley's History. The Committee compiles and archives historical records and produces appropriate literature to commemorate the Town's major anniversary dates. The Committee has six members who serve three year terms. The Committee meets about three times per year.
Mary Ann Brines Exceptional Performance Award Committee
The Mary Ann Brines Exceptional Performance Award Committee was formally established in 1997 to recognize Town employees whose performance exceeds standards. The Award is named in honor of Mary Ann Brines, Town Clerk of Paradise Valley from 1972 until she died in 1990. The Committee has five members, two of which are Town residents. The Committee meets five times during the late Fall.
Mummy Mountain Preserve Trust
The Mummy Mountain Preserve Trust was formed by the Town Council in 1998 as a separate 501(c)(3) charitable organization. The Trust’s goal is to perpetuate the natural landscape, desert plants, wildlife, and scenic beauty of the mountain areas of the Town. Trustees encourage and assist owners of property on Mummy Mountain to donate vacant land by deed or in the form of conservation easements to the Trust. There are five trustees who serve three year terms. The Trust meets once or twice per year.
Municipal Property Corporation
The Municipal Property Corporation Board of Directors issues debt on behalf of the Town to finance major capital projects such as construction of sewer line infrastructure and public buildings. The Board is made up of seven members who serve three year terms. The Board meets once or twice per year.
Personnel Appeals Board
The Personnel Appeals Board is appointed by the Council to hear appeals on employee disciplinary matters. There are five members of the Board who serve five year terms. The Board usually meets once per year.
Planning Commission
The Planning Commission is responsible for reviewing and making recommendations to the Town Council on preliminary and final subdivision plats, lot splits, zoning ordinance amendments, special use permits and general plan amendments. There are five Commissioners who serve three year terms. Service on the Commission requires a significant time commitment. In addition to two meetings a month, it is often necessary for commissioners to conduct site visits and invest time preparing for meetings.
Public Safety Personnel Retirement Board
Two citizens appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Council sit on the Public Safety Personnel Retirement Board. The Board considers requests by officers for admission into public safety retirement system as well as requests for regular and disability retirements. The Board meets about three times per year.
Visioning Committee
The Visioning Committee is a newly created committee that will work closely with the General Plan Advisory Committee to identify and assess changes in community economics and demographics which affect the Town and the provision of government services.
Water Utility Committee
The Water Utility Committee was re-established in January 2009 to study the ability of the Town’s private and public water companies to provide adequate fire protection and water supply to all property located within the Town of Paradise Valley; to communicate information about water utility issues to the public; and to provide improved communication about water issues with residents in forums that invite public participation. The Water Utility Committee has seven members of which three are residents who serve two year terms. It meets on the first Wednesday of every month except during the summer.
